If Price was really in bad shape (i.e. missing the rest of the season and playoffs) they would have gone after Brodeur, Halak or someone considerably higher on the charts than Dubnyk.

Dubnyk is an insurance policy who might, might, challenge Budaj for no. 2 next year (if Stephane Waite can work some magic on him--he's got the size for modern NHL goalies).

So, you have a team that's going nowhere. You trade a "grit" guy for a mediocre (at best) goalie. That offloads a little salary. Okay. Then, the goalie plays in two games where he is ineffective, resulting in two losses. Then, you retain some salary from mediocre goaltender and trade his rights for "future considerations."

Nice. Why even trade for a goalie? I know Hutton & Mazanec weren't the answer, but why not just admit this team is going nowhere? Why hold on to false hope? Wouldn't it have been better to hold onto Hendricks, and trade him now?

Between the Suter gaffe, the inability to sign or trade Legwand, and this whole Dubnyk mess - I think Poile has proven he is not capable of taking this team forward.

Listen, GMDP was a great GM for a low-budget team. He pieced together rosters and got lots out of them. But ever since the new ownership has loosened the purse strings a bit, his moves have been questionable at best. Perhaps he just isn't cut out for managing a larger pool of resources?

This all comes about because Poile signed a poor quality backup to Pekka in the first place. Bad and bad again. This team is going nowhere fast and everyone knows it. When will ownership demand better and enforce accountability?

Nothing! Dubnyk was terrible, but he lit a fire under Hutton's ass, so that's worth something I guess. Hendricks is not missed at all by Nashville. He's a great guy, but did absolutely nothing for Nashville. Not even in the shootout...

I'm glad Hendricks is doing "well" for you. Rinne is back. We got rid of Hendricks and his terrible contract, so I'd consider the Dubnyk trade a success.

But....Hendricks did eat up 10-15 min TOI & play on 2nd line PK.

In July Hendricks contract was great for a gritty player Trotzy coveted. In January Hendricks was a slow player with a terrible contract.

In July DP signed a backup goalie with 1 NHL game experience behind a starter that just had major surgery. Then waited until the season was about 25% through before trading for a goalie with about a 4 GAA to help a team that cant score.

Hendricks probably helps EDM more than us. Good for EDM.

But the blame for all this lays at the ineptitude of our GM.

2 goals, 0 assists since Jan 16. Take your own advice and give your head a shake there bud. Dubnyk did nothing for the Preds as Hendricks has done nothing for the Oilers. Let's not act like either team came out a winner in that deal
